Sign Out Procedures
Types of Orah Passes
Every time a student leaves campus, whether they are leaving during the day to walk 9th Street with friends, going home with a guardian overnight, or leaving for a weekend of college visits, the student must sign out. However, the type of sign-out that they will need to do depends on where they are going, when they are leaving and will be back on campus, and who they are leaving with.
NCSSM students sign out using Orah, a platform that allows students and/or guardians to create different types of "passes" to suit different purposes. Students can create one of four types of passes:
Day/Local: allows students to walk off campus in pairs or groups between sunrise and sunset.
Overnight: allows students to stay at an off campus location overnight.
Missing Curfew: allows students departing campus to return after in-building curfew but before in-room curfew.
Travel 30+ Miles: allows students to travel a distance greater than 30 miles from campus.
I will go over these passes in more depth with students during junior and senior meetings over move-in weekend, and with families of juniors during the Family Meeting on Junior Move-In day. If students or families have any questions about Orah, please don't hesitate to reach out!
A few key things to remember:
Day/Local passes are only valid for one departure from campus at a time. If you submit a pass to go to 9th Street for coffee in the morning, return to campus, and then decide to walk to the grocery store with a friend in the afternoon, you must submit a second day/local pass - your pass from the morning does not cover any additional times that you leave campus that day.
If a student is departing campus using anything other than a day/local pass, they must come to Bryan Desk with the individual that they will be leaving with. This individual then must present ID before duty staff will activate the student's pass and they will be able to leave campus.
If a student submits anything other than a day/local pass, their guardians must endorse the pass through the guardian's Orah account, linked to their NCSSM family email address. Students may not approve their own non-day/local passes.
